Buckets of Paint Water
Paint: Many options for safe disposal

What wrong with pouring paint down the drain or washing away in the yard with a hose?

Microplastics

Acrylic paint contains microplastics that are detrimental to all living beings and ecosystems.

While the research on microplastics is still new,  it has been found that ingesting microplastics can lead to organ damage. It can also cause hormone disruption from bisphenol A (BPA). Microplastics have a compounding effect as they work they way up the food chain.

Easy Solutions

The good news is there are easy solutions for disposing of used paint and paint water. I simply evaporate my paint water outside in large buckets covered with mesh to prevent debris or insects from entering. For those who don’t have the sun, space, or time, another option is to separate the solids from the water via chemical reaction. Unused paint can also be brough to most municipalities for disposal. With the many options available for disposal, we don’t have to pollute our precious water source, or impact our own health, to use paint.
